Nigerian Army raises alarm over new plot by Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army on Sunday said it had uncovered a plot by Boko Haram insurgents to win public
sympathy from Nigerians in the Northeast.
In a statement, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, reported the Theater Commander, Maj.-Gen. Benson Akinroluyo, as disclosing that the insurgents deceived people by voluntarily returning cattle, hitherto rustled from the owners in the northeast.
Nwachukwu disclosed that the Commander raised the alarm while addressing troops of Sector 2 during a three-day operational tour conducted between Jan. 31 and February 2, NAN reports.
The army, therefore, called on the youth to shun the insurgents’ propaganda and not to be persuaded to join the group, describing them as an enemy of the people.
“The army has uncovered the employment of deception by Boko Haram terrorists to win the confidence and support of locals in the North East.
“Boko Haram terrorists now engage in cattle rustling and later return the rustled cattle to their owners, thereby deceitfully creating the impression of Good Samaritan and presenting themselves as protector of the people,” he said in the statement.
Nwachukwu described the gimmick as a dangerous ploy, stressing that the trend must be checked to avoid escalation.
He tasked the troops to prevent any form of cattle rustling by the insurgents, noting that they now used it as a means of psychological warfare to make the locals see them in a positive light and be receptive to their ideology.
The commander also called on community and opinion leaders to educate members of their communities on the development.
“You must be vigilant and not fall for the antics of the terrorists; cattle rustling has earlier been identified as a means of raising funds for Boko Haram terrorists.
“Now they invented deceit by first stealing the cattle and later returning same to their owners to make the locals believe they are pious and possibly turn blind eyes to their nefarious activities,” he added.

Man arrested for raping his stepdaughter, 13, multiple times in Akwa Ibom

Man arrested for raping his stepdaughter, 13, multiple times in Akwa Ibom

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Akwa Ibom state.
Joseph Sunday Essien, 45, is accused of sexually abusing Patience Edet Edem on 4 different occasions. The girl reported to her mother but the woman didn't believe the child. She only believed when she caught him in the act.
The mother, who has two children for the suspect, reported her husband to the police after making the shocking discovery.
The State Police Commissioner, Musa Kimo, while parading the suspect said that the father carried out the last heinous act on January 13, 2019.
The mother of the victim, who married the suspect after the death of her former husband - the father of the victim - said that her recent husband left her in their bedroom on the day of the final abuse and snuck into the girl's room to rape her.
She described her husband as wicked and vowed never to return to their home.
However, the suspect denied the allegations. While speaking to newsmen, he said his wife and her daughter made up the allegation as a result of issues they had.

Higuain Joins Chelsea On Loan from Juventus

Higuain Joins Chelsea On Loan from Juventus

Gonzalo Higuain
Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain, who joined the club on loan from Juventus until the end of the season, the English Premier League club said on Wednesday.
Higuain joins Chelsea after his year-long loan spell with AC Milan was cut to less than six months.
The deal reunites the striker with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who was manager of Napoli when Higuain was at the club.
“When the opportunity to join Chelsea presented itself I had to take it.
“It’s a team I’ve always liked that has a lot of history, a wonderful stadium and they play in the English Premier League, a league I’ve always wanted to play in,” Higuain said in a statement on the Chelsea website.
“I now hope I can give back that trust Chelsea have shown me out on the pitch. I can’t wait to start and I hope to adapt as soon as possible.”
The deal, however, has come too late for him to face Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday.
The 31-year-old did not sign before Wednesday’s midday deadline and cannot therefore play against Spurs at Stamford Bridge in a match Chelsea trail 1-0 from the first leg.
Higuain’s spell at AC Milan started with six goals in seven games but he has only scored once in his last 12 appearances.
Sarri hopes he will rediscover the form that saw him score 38 times in their final season together at Napoli in 2015/2016.
“He has had some difficulties recently, but we’re hoping we can raise him back to his best form,” Sarri told reporters on Wednesday.

“He’s still scored eight goals in a team that isn’t at the same level as Juventus.
“He’s a very strong striker. Especially in my first season in Naples. He scored 36 goals in 35 matches in Serie A. For sure, he is one of the best strikers in my career.”
Sarri was keen to boost his goalscoring options after dropping misfiring Spain forward Alvaro Morata and deploying playmaker Eden Hazard as a `false nine’ in recent games.
Asked if the arrival of Higuain was a sign that the club are behind him, Sarri said: “I hope so.
“I think the club agree with me when I told them my opinion about the team.
“The January market is very difficult, especially for a striker. It’s very difficult in January to find one of the most important strikers in the world.”
Chelsea are in the fourth and final UEFA Champions League qualifying spot in the English Premier League standings, three points ahead of Arsenal who beat them 2-0 on Saturday.

Real Madrid Becomes World's Richest Club Again, Knocks Off Man United

Real Madrid Becomes World's Richest Club Again, Knocks Off Man United

Real Madrid players
Real Madrid has topped the table of the world's 20 richest football clubs, displacing Manchester United with record revenues of €750.9m (£674.6m).
Man Utd slipped to third with Barcelona making it the first Spanish one-two since 2014-15, said Deloitte.
Its Football Money League, based on season 2017-18, also shows the combined revenues of the top 20 clubs has risen 6% to €8.3bn (£7.4bn), a new record.
There were a record six English Premier League clubs in the top 10.
'Outstanding performance'
The list, the 22nd of its kind, only looks at revenues and does not take into account club debts. This gap this year between the top two places was the second widest yet, with €60.5m between the leading pair.
Real Madrid won their third successive Champions League, beating Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev last May.
That helped raise income for Los Blancos, who have now topped Deloitte's money league 12 times.
The club experienced commercial growth of €54.8m, including an increase in sponsorship and merchandising revenues, as well as exploitation of increasingly lucrative pre-season tour matches.
At €356.2m, Real Madrid now have the highest commercial revenue of any football club globally, contributing to those world-record revenues.
Dan Jones, head of Deloitte's sports business group, said: "Real Madrid's outstanding financial performance in 2017-18 is built on their long history of success on the pitch, most recently three consecutive Champions League titles.
"This has enabled the club to continue to drive commercial revenue as the appetite to partner with Europe's most successful clubs remains stronger than ever."
He said most of Deloitte's top 10 of our top 10 were through to the round of 16 in this season's Champions League and forecasting further revenue growth.
'Big five'
Bayern Munich and Manchester City completed the top five, retaining their positions from the past two years.
Paris St-Germain, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur occupied places six to 10, with Spurs making it into the top tier for only the second time, having last appeared in 2006-07.
Everton were in 17th spot, Newcastle United 19th, and West Ham United 20th.
All the 20 clubs represented are from the "big five" European leagues, with Italy having four places, Germany and Spain contributing three clubs, and France one.
Other findings include:
Spurs have capitalised on playing a full season at Wembley Stadium which has seen match-day revenue increase by 54%
Paris Saint-Germain have reversed two consecutive years of decline
AS Roma and AC Milan return to the top 20 thanks to performances in Uefa competition.
Turkish giants Besiktas have achieved their highest ever ranking, at 26th.
"The substantial presence of Premier League clubs continues to be felt in this year's Deloitte Football Money League," said Deloitte's Sam Boor.
"However, with the Premier League's tender for the next cycle of domestic rights from 2019-20 complete and sale of overseas rights nearing conclusion, it is clear that Premier League clubs will be unable to rely on explosive growth in broadcast distributions as a source of future growth, as has been the case in recent years.
"As a result, we expect an even greater emphasis among these clubs on generating their own growth in the coming season, and in particular the optimisation of commercial revenue, which has been a key area for differentiating growth across most of Europe's leading clubs in recent years."

Arsenal vs Manchester United: Gary Neville predicts FA Cup clash at Emirates

Arsenal vs Manchester United: Gary Neville predicts FA Cup clash at Emirates

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has said their FA Cup fourth round against Arsenal on Friday night, will be “a good game”.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville stated that he expects both teams to go for it at The Emirates.
The Gunners beat Chelsea 2-0 at home last weekend, while United are on a seven-game winning run.
“This will be a good game because Manchester United will go for it — and so will Arsenal.
“Arsenal have a top coach in Unai Emery and are improving. They are still a little bit ‘old Arsenal’ but you can see the difference now.
“Just look at the performance in the 2-0 win against Chelsea in the Premier League last Saturday.
“Having said that, Emery needs four or five transfer windows to get things right,” he said.
